The Ellis Church of England Primary School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School in the Diocese of Sheffield. It is maintained by Barnsley Local Authority. The school provides a distinctively Christian education for children from 3 years to 11 years of age.
Historically, Anglican schools were parish schools providing education for the community in accordance with the principles of the Church of England. Thus the majority of Sheffield Diocesan schools were established to provide education for the children of the parish within a Christian context. The two aims of being ‘distinctively Christian’ and ‘serving the local community’ are reflected in the school’s admission criteria.
The school has strong links with St Mary’s Church in Wombwell and children visit regularly to take part in services such as the Easter service and Christingle.
Our Rector, Rev John Armstrong, and his family joined us on Wednesday 16th May 2018.

There is also a Toddler Group on Mondays at 9.30am and a Jesus and Me (JAM) club on Mondays at 3.30pm

Little Wrigglers is the St Mary’s Toddler Group
If you have a toddler or baby and would like to meet with other mums (and some dads and grandparents) then Little Wrigglers is for you.
There are plenty of toys, games and crafts for every age and we spend some time singing songs together and hearing different stories from the Bible.
To cover the cost of crafts and refreshments there is a small charge of £1 per family.
Every Monday morning in term time from 9.30am to 11.00am at Wombwell Community Hall.

St Mary’s ‘JAM’ Club
Young families are very precious to us as a Church family and we have set up ‘JAM’ club to enjoy time together as families with young and old playing games, catching up on each other’s lives and encouraging each other and our children in our walk with God.
Each week starts with a short story from the Bible followed by family time with a variety of games, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, play-dough and much more, as well as coffee, tea and other refreshments. To cover the cost of crafts and refreshments there is a small charge of £1 per family.
Please join us every Monday afternoon in term time from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Wombwell Community Hall.

Hemingfield Action Group
The Hemingfield Action Group (HAG) is a community group who like to make Hemingfield a nicer place to live. They organise events such as the Summer Gala, Children’s Christmas Party, Carol Concert and run a crime and safety group. If you want to find out more or get involved please contact the school who can put you in touch with them.
